We weren’t satisfied with the strength and durability of industry standard tent fabrics. Reason to start making our own, for our tents and our clients.
Each fabric is developed by our in-house fabric development and innovation team, and every innovation is based on client feedback. We listen to what you need for your tents, then develop stronger, better fabrics in line with what you’ve told us.
To keep your tents in top condition for as long as possible, OSSO® Fabrics have premium anti-mildew and UV-resistant treatments, the right balance between fabric weight and durability, and ripstop fabrics with superior tensile and tearing strength, also in PFAS free option.
PFAS are man made chemicals that hardly or not deteriorate and are often referred to as permanent chemicals. Overtime, large amounts of PFAS can be harmful – not only for the environment, but they can also effect the human immuun system. Therefore, it is important to keep development and awareness on a high level to bring down high concentrations of PFAS.
With regards to the textile and tent industry, most PFAS content stems from waterproofing a fabric. Because the PFAS micro particles can form a seal around the textile fibres, high levels of water resistance can be accomplished. In the clothing industry, PFAS free is common practise for the last few years, because of the contact between the garments and the human skin. However, all textiles are eventually expected to be PFAS free and in some countries (like Australia) that is the case already. Other then garments, fabrics used in the tent industry require a lasting level of water resistance in combination with high colourfastness, anti mildew treatment and ant fire requirements. This has proven to be a challenge, since most coatings in tent textiles use a PU based coating, and coupling between a PU coating and a PFAS free water-repellent are not long lasting and therefore cause leaking within short periods of time. Of course the frequency of periods of rain and sunshine influences the time scale.
With our partners, OSSO has developed two fabrics (in both anti fire and non anti fire versions) without permanent chemicals, that are not only PFAS free but also stand out in tearing and tensile strength. Both fabrics have a colour grade 7 and feature our unique anti mildew treatment. New on our TDS’s is an abrasion test that is unparalleled in our market segment. Also, we have UV resistance tested to offer a completely upgraded material to the latest and hardest tests.
